Fire Museum gets new ladder truck

published 11-19-2008

The North Charleston and American LaFrance Fire Museum and Educational Center recently accepted donation of a 1941 American LaFrance 65’ aerial ladder truck from The Roanoke Fire Department, Roanoke Va.

The truck was originally purchased new by the Town of Pulaski, Va in 1941 and served there until 1986 when it was donated to the Roanoke Fire Department where it remained in service as a parade truck until 2007.

Currently the museum plans to use the vehicle as a part of its working collection to be featured in parades, displays and other events which promote not only the Fire Museum and the City of North Charleston but also the dedication and efforts of those firemen who used this fine equipment as they bravely fought fires and responded to emergencies of all kinds.

It is the museum’s belief that sharing this beautiful antique vehicle with the public will be an extension of the service of those firefighters connected with this vehicle and firefighters everywhere. Beautiful apparatus such as this make teaching about home and fire safety more approachable while sharing the brave heritage of our firefighters.
